CAMPAIGN ON PROVINCIAL ELECTION

The citizen forum meeting was held in the temple of Jayasumanaramaya on 17 of July 2012 in Sumedagama, Trincomalee. Mr. Arumugam who is the president of citizen forum played as the chairperson of the meeting. Male and female citizen forum members representing different villages participated to the meeting.

 Trincomalee district is busy with the provincial election. Many politicians who related to different parties even Cabinet Ministers are visiting the rural villages requesting votes. That is a common view of the area but there are many issues to be solved. Many services to be fulfilled. Therefore, the citizen forum took a decision to challenge on peoples’ demands the politicians who are coming to beg votes. They selected a committee to get conventional common issues in villages wise. Group meetings are organized to aware the people on agreed demands.

They hope to use a leaflet to aware people and hand over the politicians who visit villages on provincial election. Not only that but also citizen forum decided to display the cutouts in front of the access ways to villages putting peoples’ demands for voting. More than 1000 leaflets are disseminated among thousand families in the area.

They try to cover ten villages such as Manayaweli, Veeranagar, Love lane, Pumpuhar, kapalthurei, as well as Vilamkulam, Kilikunchimalei, Salli, karamalauththu, on this campaign. They believe that politicians can be concerned about the peoples’ problems using this election season
